Star Sisters Celebrate International Day of Friendship

Star Sisters is a way to connect women and girls with Turner Syndrome to share honest experiences and form a sisterhood of positivity. This is an opportunity to raise awareness while receiving support. All meet-ups and events occur online – so anyone, anywhere can participate!

As the pandemic is finally slowing down, people are able to get together just in time for summer. Early in the month we saw families gathering to have a cookouts and watch fireworks together on the Fourth of July. Churches, bands, and students are all together again. It’s starting to feel like we are reaching our new normal. Despite the happiness that summer and the slowing of the pandemic bring, the losses from the last year still hang above us. Some lost family and loved ones to COVID-19, others lost their jobs or college graduation creating more mental health struggles than before. Growing and maintaining friendships can provide support and boost spirts while working through these mental health struggles.

Why Are We Talking About This?

April 27 , 2011, the General Assembly of the United Nations declared July 30 as International Friendship Day! Star Sisters is using this day as an opportunity to help women and girls with TS find new meaningful friendships and connections. Currently, the CDC states that people who have been vaccinated “can resume activities that you did before the pandemic…” Meaning, that people can now have the opportunity to grow and maintain friendships in person!
