PowerBack-A Teen Dating Abuse Overview

Short overview of topic:
The presentation will include defining abuse, reviewing the different types of abuse, how to help a friend in an abusive relationship, resources, safety planning, warning signs, and the difference between healthy and unhealthy relationships.
What You Will Learn:
Participants will gain a deeper understanding of the dynamics of abusive relationships, be able to identify the types of abuse, and gain knowledge of safety planning and resources if participants know someone who is in an abusive relationship.
Who Should Attend:
Anyone- A teen who is dating or a parent of a teen who is dating will gain information on this topic because anyone can be a victim. Content, while not explicit, may be inappropriate for young children. Use your discretion in viewing this content and consider this webinar a possible trigger for victims of prior abuse.*
About the Presenters:
Laura Varelas Arroyo is the PowerBack Program Manager and has been at A Partnership for Change since 2022 and has worked with victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child sexual abuse, and human trafficking for over a decade. Laura lives in North Jersey with her husband and two children. Laura is very passionate about creating a world without violence of all kinds.
Laura has worked in high school students in NJ speaking about abusive relationships since 2022. Prior work experience includes her work in a domestic violence shelter, victim advocate at probation, and as a multidisciplinary team coordinator reviewing cases of child abuse. MA in Global Development from the University of Bridgeport.
Jesse Kraft is the PowerBack Program Coordinator and has been at A Partnership for Change since 2020. Jesse gives presentations to high school students with Laura and works on outreach and social media for the program. Jesse is very passionate about helping young people understand the dynamics of abusive and healthy relationships.
